Three Epic Social Media Campaigns That Demonstrate the Power of SMM
Almost all brands around the world are using social media
platforms to promote their products. Most organisations use social media
platforms for simple promotional efforts rather than full-fledged campaigns.
However, many organisations do want to harness the full potential of social
media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. To reach the target
audience. This blog addresses some of the most recent social media marketing
campaigns that have generated quite a buzz.
Apple: Apple has
been at the top of its marketing game since the late 20th century. One of its
recent social media campaigns is centered around UGC or user-generated content.
Apple started a trend by using the hashtag #ShotonIphone. The trend encourages
the customers, content creators, or general people to shoot photos on iPhone,
post them on any of the social media platforms (preferably Facebook and
Instagram), and then use the mentioned hashtag. Even without spending much
money, iPhone has created a lot of buzzes. Currently, there are around 12.9
million posts having the hashtag. Just by taking advantage of the hashtag trend
and the brand value of Apple, Apple has generated such buzz with the lowest
effort and cost possible. The post has worked in favour of Apple as more people
got to observe the power of Iphone cameras. It is an ongoing trend and is
expected to generate more buzz.

Dove: Dove as a
brand has always encouraged women empowerment, and the advertisements are
always directed towards making women. Just like Apple, Dove decided to go
for UGC to start a social awareness
campaign. Dove partnered with Girlygaze and Getty images for the project. The
hashtag that was used in this case was #ShowUs. The hashtag was
self-explanatory, and it encouraged women of all colours, shapes, and
socio-economic statuses to take their own picture and post it on social media
platforms. The campaign generated more than 650,000 hashtags on the social
media platform and has become an internet sensation. After the campaign went
viral, the image of Dove has strengthened. Dove is still considered a brand
that endorses inclusivity.

Proctor and Gamble:
P&G is a renowned FMCG brand that proudly owns Tide, Pampers, Okay, Joy,
etc. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, it was a gloomy situation with
people losing their lives, losing their jobs, and also being forced to stay at
home. During times like this, the traffic on social media platforms Increased
two-three times. As a brand that specialises in many hygiene products, P&G
knew that this was one of the best opportunities to present itself in front of
the customers. P&G brought the #DistanceDancing challenge, where the
netizens were encouraged to stay in touch with each other through their dances.
The social media campaign worked wonderfully as it generated around 8 billion
views and 1.9 million videos within the first week of the hashtag going viral.
In its lifetime, the campaign generated 17 billion views. The campaign was
centered around TikTok, and P&G partnered with Charlie D'Amileo. For the
first 3 million videos on TikTok, P&G promised to donate to Feeding America
and Matthew25.
